The new generation of energy meters is the smart gateway energy meter, also known as the 24 standard energy meter, which will be finalized after discussion in 2024; The 21 standard electric energy meter has been revised based on the original 15 standard electric energy meters. However, the 21 standard has not been officially approved and released. The 24 standard, based on the 21 standard, added management unit related functions and can also be called an IoT table. Finally, it was officially approved and released.
1. Core positioning
Gateway meter: metering+smart gateway+edge computing+external device access, which belongs to smart terminal meter.
Smart meter: pure metering+basic collection+remote cost control, belonging to the standard metering type of electricity meter.
2. Hardware architecture
Gateway meter: metering unit+management unit+communication unit (module). Inserting the management unit results in a gateway energy meter, while not inserting the management unit results in a regular basic energy meter.
Smart meter: metering unit+communication module
3. Operating System
Gateway table: The management unit runs the Dianhong IoT operating system and supports hot plugging, replacement, and upgrading.
Smart table: No management unit, no operating system requirements
Whether it is a gateway meter or a smart meter, the communication unit and Bluetooth module in the energy meter can also run the Dianhong IoT operating system.
4. Message routing function
Gateway table: Supports DL/T 698.45 and DL/T 645 protocol forwarding, and both communication and metering units support message routing functionality.
1）. The data identification is ZZE0ZZZZZ~ZZEDZZZ, ZZEFZZZ~ZZFBZZZZZ, assigned to the management unit;
2）. In the DL/T 698.45 protocol, logical address 0 belongs to the metering unit, while other logical address messages belong to the management unit.
Smart meter: Only supports DL/T 645 protocol, not DL/T 698.45 protocol.
5. Southward expansion
Gateway table: Provides a southbound expansion channel that can access sensors, energy storage, charging stations, and smart homes.
Smart meter: No southbound channel function.
6. Output of raw sampling data
Gateway table: Supports raw AD sampling data output (SPI1), with 64/128/256 points per cycle that can be set. It provides the management unit with cycle data, and supports edge computing, load identification, and advanced power quality analysis.
The single-phase smart gateway energy meter supports power quality monitoring and supports 2-21 harmonics, total distortion rate, and distortion power.
Smart meter: No raw data output, single-phase meter does not support power quality monitoring function.
7. Local cost control function
Gateway table: Remove the local cost control function, and the cost control logic is fully implemented by the main station. Then, issue remote cost control commands according to settlement needs.
Smart meter: Supports local calculation of tiered electricity quantity/tiered electricity price.

Smart meter: Only supports plaintext broadcast timing (limited to 1 time per day, within ± 10 minutes).
